January 15, 2006:
The past six months have seen a great number of accomplishments at ConnectEd and at Santa Luisa Primary. Here are just a few examples:

22 computers in a newly remodeled computer lab equipped with full electricity, cooling system and internet.

Computer class focusing on typing and word processing skills for 200 6th-9th graders in their daily schedule.

Nutrition program based on soy which has been proven in the country to be an extremely cost effective way to ensure that protein and nutrients reach the most needy children;

250 children each day recieve soy milk which provides a job for two Salvadoran women and one Salvadoran man

To workshops for parents in order to educate about the benefits of soy and the importance of nutrition and to teach how to use soy dough (provided by ConnectEd) in everyday foods

Nutrition program in the rural community of Quetzalapa II which provides soy milk and soy pastries to 150 children. This program is run exclusively by the mothers of the children. ConnectEd meets once a month with mothers to evaluate the program.

Provided uniform shirts for the children of Quetzalapa II so that each child could attend school. The clean shirts are required for school attendance and expensive for families with multiple children (often resulting in the youngest or female children not attending school).

Summer camp experience for two weeks for 50 students designed to provide a space where students could avoid the dangerous life of the market and participate in educational and fun courses at the same time.
